Arbor Day

March 2012

Brotherhood Way

Project 20 volunteers joined with the Community Clean Team, Mayor Edwin M. Lee, and Supervisor John Avalos to clean and green San Francisco’s District 11.

Volunteers worked on tree care, landscaping and gardening projects, removed weeds and overgrown vegetation, painted over graffiti, and helped clean up litter around the neighborhood. The city dedicated a signature tree in honor of Wangari Muta Maathai, a Nobel Peace Laureate, Goldman Prize winner, and founder of the Green Belt Movement– an organization that focuses on environmental conservation, community development, and capacity building in developing countries, in order to promote self-determination, equity, and  improved livelihoods and security. She lived and worked in Nairobi, Kenya.
