Here at the San Francisco Pretrial Diversion Project, we strive to protect the civil rights and improve the livelihoods of Bay Area communities. Since our inception in 1976, we have fought against the pernicious establishment of secured bail bonds which
- erroneously correlates a defendant’s ability-to-pay with his or her public risk
- disproportionately burdens and detains defendants of lower means
- violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 5th and 14th Amendments
In addition to amending back-end outcomes of criminal justice contact, SFPDP has directed a substantial portion of its resources to create more consistency in pretrial sentencing. To learn more about these efforts, click here.
